When a Maine craft distillery opens: A peek inside the first brewpub
- by admin
Craft distilling in Maine has been around for years, but the Maine Distilling Company has its own craft brewing culture.
Now, the first craft distillation in the state is finally open.
The Maine Craft Distilling Co. opened in May 2018, bringing the state’s largest distillery to its fifth location.
Owner Dave Williams, who previously worked for New York City’s Brooklyn Brewery, has worked on his first craft brewery for more than two decades.
The Maine Craft distillery was originally planned as a one-stop shop for craft beer, wine, and spirits, but it quickly became an outlet for the company’s other businesses.
“Our goal was to grow and provide an outlet and community for craft,” said Williams.
“We wanted to provide a place for people to connect, and be able to share what they love with others.”
The first craft brewing in Maine was created at the end of the Great Depression in the 1950s and 1960s.
But, by the early 1990s, the industry was booming in Maine and the distilling industry was becoming a major source of jobs for the state.
The first Maine distillery, The Craft Distillery in Maine, opened in 2018.
It’s a craft distilleries first location in Maine.
It has one beer on tap, five wines on tap and a distillery-made whiskey.
It will also sell locally sourced products.
“We wanted the brewery to be a destination and a place where people could get together and have their own space,” said William.
“It was the only place where you could have a private beer tasting.
It was a place that people could come together and get together with friends.”
The brewery has an emphasis on local craft beer.
It is home to five different breweries that have been making beers from the local area since 2008.
One of the newest breweries is called BrewDog.
The brewery recently opened a tasting room and distillery that will be dedicated to local craft spirits.
“Craft distilling is such a great thing to do, and I think it’s going to be such a strong economy for Maine,” said resident Mike Brown.
“I think the craft distillers are going to have a huge impact on the economy.
It helps grow the economy.”
The Maine Distiller Company is not only the first distillery in the country, but a state-of-the-art facility, providing a taste of the future for Maine.
“This is going to create thousands of jobs in the industry, which will create jobs for Maine residents, and also bring money to the state,” said Dr. Kevin Pappas, who runs the distillery.
The distillery has plans to hire 50 people to work in its distilling facilities by the end and hopes to open a third location in 2019.
The new distillery will also offer more than 1,300 beer taps.
Maine Craft Distillers first tasting room, the Maine Craft.
is located at 1141 Bannister Street in Augusta.
It opened in October of 2017 and has since expanded to 12 additional tasting rooms.
